Spirk, Taggert & Guarino Lead Men at Greyhound Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's track & field squad participated in its second straight home meet as the Hounds hosted the annual Greyhound Invitational at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field Friday and Saturday.

The Greyhounds had seven ECAC qualifying marks and one event winner in the meet.

Sophomore John Spirk posted a PR in the finals of the 110-meter high hurdles with a winning time of 14.94 seconds as he went under 15 seconds for the first time in his career. Spirk's time is an ECAC qualifying time and moves him to 21st on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list that will have the Top 20 runners compete in the NCAA Division III Championships in May. Spirk ran a time of 15.13 in the preliminaries of the 110-meter high hurdles to advance to the finals while senior Austin Gardener reached the finals of the 100-meter dash after a qualifying time of 11.21 seconds.

Gardener lowered his time to 11.18 seconds in the finals to place fourth, and he was third in the 200-meter dash in 22.37 seconds and followed by freshman Billy DiLolle  in fourth at 22.48 seconds and junior Eric Morton in fifth with a time of 22.85 seconds.

Senior Cory Taggert ran a PR and ECAC qualifying time of 48.94 seconds in the 400-meter dash, the tenth fastest time in school history and puts him at 26th on the TFRRS list while senior Jordan Sweeney was tenth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.89.

Freshman Greg Jaindl was fourth in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:04.14 while sophomore Devon Harris placed sixth in 4:05.27. Sophomore Peter Milewski was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:08.09 while sophomore Benjamin Smith took tenth in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:55.45.

Spirk, Jaindl, Taggert and junior Mike Kopach combined to finish fourth in the 4x400-meter relay in an ECAC qualifying time of 3:23.49 while Moravian's 4x100-meter relay squad of senior Matt Barnett and sophomores Chris Antoine , Da'Juon Hibbert and Baru Roberson was fourth in 46.13 seconds.

Senior Michael Guarino was third in the javelin with an ECAC qualifying and PR toss of 60.06 meters (197-0) as he surpassed 60 meters for the first time in his career with a throw that puts Guarino 15th on the TFRRS list. Junior Robert Condo was fifth in the javelin with an ECAC qualifying mark of 58.84 meters (193-0).

Senior Kahron Walker was the runner-up in the high jump at an ECAC qualifying height of 2.00 meters (6-6.75) while freshman Roland Cash  took fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 13.41 meters (44-0). Sophomore Scott Goodwin placed third in the pole vault with an ECAC qualifying height of 4.55 meters (14-11) while senior Kyle Hagerty took tenth in the long jump with a leap of 6.54 meters (21-5.5).

Moravian is slated to return to action on Saturday, April 22 at the Misericrodia University Invitational beginning at 10:00 a.m.
