Spirk Wins 110 Hurdles to Lead Greyhounds at Lehigh Games

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's track & field squad had its final tune-up for the 2017 Landmark Conference Championships Saturday at the non-scoring Lehigh University Games.

Sophomore John Spirk led the Greyhounds by winning the 110-meter high hurdles in PR and ECAC qualifying time of 14.79 seconds, a time that moved him into a tie for 19th on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list and the top 20 males in each event will compete at the NCAA Division III National Championships at the University of Mount Union late next month.

Junior Eric Morton was fourth in the 100-meter dash in 11.16 seconds and seventh in the 200-meter dash in 23.03 seconds while senior Austin Gardener was fourth in the 200-meter dash in 22.46 seconds. Junior Andrew Mitchell finished sixth in the 800-meter run in 1:57.23 while sophomore Devon Harris was seventh in 1:57.49 and freshman Gavin Kemery was eighth in 1:57.63. Sophomore Josh Toth placed eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:09.37 while senior Jordan Sweeney was tenth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:02.00.

Senior Kahron Walker was tied for fourth in the high jump at an ECAC qualifying height of 1.90 meters (6-2.75) while sophomore Brian Stock placed eighth in the long jump at 6.22 meters (20-5). Freshman Roland Cash  was seventh in the triple jump at 13.03 meters (42-9) while senior Greg Cahill placed ninth in the hammer throw with a toss of 43.56 meters (142-11).

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday and Sunday, May 6-7 when the Greyhounds host the 2017 Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field.
