Moravian Men Finish Fifth at 2017 ECAC Division III Outdoor Championships

WESTFIELD, Mass. --- The Moravian College men's track & field squad placed fifth at the 2017 ECAC Division III Outdoor Championships hosted by Westfield State University after the second and final day of competition Thursday.

The Greyhounds finished with 44 points after scoring 25 on Thursday. Farmingdale State (N.Y.) University won the title with 85 points. There were 31 men's teams that scored at least one point in the meet.

Sophomore John Spirk was the runner-up in the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.93 seconds to score eight points, and he was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 56.73 seconds to garner five more points.

Junior Eric Morton placed sixth in the 100-meter dash in 10.91 seconds to earn three points for the Greyhounds. Moravian's 4x100-meter relay squad with seniors Austin Gardener and Matt Barnett, junior Andrew Mitchell and sophomore Scott Goodwin finished tenth in 45.01 seconds.

Senior Kahron Walker placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 6.74 meters (22-1.5) while sophomore Brian Stock was sixth at 6.43 meters (21-1.25) as the duo combined for seven points. Walker was also seventh in the high jump at a height of 1.94 meters (6-4.25) to earn two points.

Moravian will wrap up its 2017 season next weekend at the 2017 NCAA Division III National Championships being hosted by the University of Mount Union from May 25-27. The qualifiers for the meet will be announced on Saturday, May 20 on ncaa.com.
