Five Greyhound Men Named 2017 USTFCCCA All-Mideast Region

NEW ORLEANS, La. --- The Moravian College men's track & field team has had five student-athletes named as United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region honorees this week.

The USTFCCCA is in its second year named All-Region selections for indoor and outdoor track & field at the NCAA Division III level after having All-Region honors in cross country for a number of years. For a student-athlete to earn All-Region honors, an athlete must be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region according to the final Track & Field Results Reporting System data or be part of a top-3 relay team. Moravian is part of the Mideast Region.

The Greyhounds' honorees include senior Michael Guarino and junior Robert Condo in the javelin, senior Kahron Walker in the high jump, junior Eric Morton in the 100-meter dash and sophomore John Spirk in the 110-meter high hurdles. Condo has a season-best thrown of 62.40 meters (204-9) to win the Landmark Conference title while Guarino was the runner-up at the conference meet at 62.38 meters (204-8). Walker had a season-best clearance of 2.00 meters (6-6.75) at the Greyhound Invitational while Morton ran a time of 10.71 seconds in the preliminaries of the 2017 ECAC Division III Outdoor Championships. Spirk's best time of 14.77 seconds in the hurdles came at the Georgian Court University Last Chance Meet.

"We have one of the most competitive regions in the country, so it's an honor to be recognized as an All-Region athlete," commented Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "Rob and Mike are headed out to NCAAs this week, Eric and John missed by less than a quarter of a second, and Kahron was within two inches, so obviously they all had great seasons and were key parts of our team's success this outdoor season."

Condo and Guarino are scheduled to compete in the javelin at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor National Championship being hosted by the University of Mount Union in Geneva, Ohio on Thursday, May 25 at 5:00 p.m. to finish off the outdoor season. Condo enters the meet in ninth overall while Guarino has the tenth best throw in the nation this season.
