COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's track and field team competed at the Collegeville Classic at Ursinus College on Saturday, finishing first of 24 teams.
The men's team, which scored 82 points and finished 29 points ahead of runner-up Shenandoah University, also had a pair of individual winners with junior John Spirk taking first place in the 60-meter hurdles in a personal best time of 8.40 seconds, which is tied for 23rd in the nation on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list, and freshmen Zion Howard won the 200-meter dash in in a time of 22.96 seconds. Howard also took second place in the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.09 seconds.
Freshman Franklin Musnuff took fifth place in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 17:20.83 followed by freshmen Billy Milburn in ninth place in a time of 19:11.54. In the mile run, sophomore Justin Beasley-Turner placed ninth in a time of 4.42.25 while junior Woodrow Battle ran a time of 9.22 seconds to place fifth in the 60-meter hurdles. Senior Mike Kopach took eighth place in the 400-meter dash in a time of 53.91 seconds while senior Andrew Mitchell finished third in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:00.72. Moravian had four Greyhounds placing in the finals of the 3,000-meter run with junior Devon Harris coming in second in a time of 9:00.79 followed by sophomore Greg Jaindl placing third in a time of 9:01.31. Sophomore Gavin Kemery finished in a time of 9:50.42 to take eighth place while junior Benjamin Smith finished in a time of 9:52.74 to take ninth. Moravian's 4x400-meter "A" relay team of Spirk, Howard, sophomore Evan Lutz and freshman Sean McFarland came in fourth place in a time of 3:34.10 while the "B" relay team of Kopach, Mitchell, Beasley-Turner and freshman Peter Gingrich ran a time of 3:40.69 to finish in seventh place.
Freshman Shane Mastro placed sixth with a shot put of 13.34 meters (43-9.25) while junior Scott Goodwin placed fourth in the pole vault at a height of 4.10 meters (13-5.25) followed by in eighth place senior Preston Weidner at a height of 3.65 meters (11-11.75). In the long jump, junior Brian Stock took seventh place in a distance of 6.41 meters (21-0.5) while freshman Michael Elo placed second in the triple jump in a distance of 13.18 meters (43-3) and freshman Adam Strouse placed ninth in the event with a distance of 11.71 meters (38-5).
The Greyhounds will return to action Saturday January 27 at Lehigh University for the Lehigh University Covert Classic beginning at 9:30 a.m.
