Zion Howard '21 selected as Landmark Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week.

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College freshman sprinter Zion Howard has been selected as the Landmark Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week for his performance this past Saturday.

Howard, who was honored for the first time outdoors after winning three Athlete of the Week honors during the indoor campaign, had an outstanding debut to the outdoor season at the Lafayette College 8-Way Meet. He won the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.65 seconds, the fastest overall time in the meet, and he was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash in 10.82 seconds, the second best time overall in the meet. Howard's 200-meter time is currently fifth in the nation on the TFRRS list, and he is 11th in the 100-meter dash. Howard ran the second leg of Moravian's 4x400-meter relay team in a time of 3:27.87 to finish as the top DII/DIII team and the second best time in the meet.

"To be honest, Zion even surprised us," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "His 100 was roughly what we expected, we figured he could get under 11 seconds after how indoors went. His 200 really surprised us, though. The results say he had a tailwind, but for most of the 200s it was actually more of a cross wind so they weren't ideal conditions with temperatures in the low 50s. Considering it was his first outdoor 200 of the season, and the weather being sub-optimal, we feel pretty confident he can drop at least another tenth of a second which he'll likely need to make NCAAs in a few months."

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, April 7 when the squad heads to the Muhlenberg College Invitational in Allentown.
