Howard to Compete in 2018 USATF Junior Outdoor Championships on June 16

Zion Howard '21 runs in the 2018 NCAA Division III National Championships and qualified for 2018 USATF Junior Outdoor Championships.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College sophomore-to-be Zion Howard is set to compete in the 200-meter dash at the 2018 USA Track & Field Junior Outdoor Championships on Saturday, June 16 at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.

Howard heads to the meet as one of 24 athletes that declared to compete after hitting the qualifying time of 21.44 seconds in the 200-meter dash with a wind reading of +/- 2.0. The meet is open to athletes that are at least 14 years old on the day of competition but will not turn 20 years old at any time in 2018. The four preliminary heats will be run on Saturday, June 16 at 7:05 p.m. and the finals are slated for Sunday, June 17 at 4:25 p.m. Howard is set to run in lane seven of the second preliminary heat. The four heat winners and the next four fastest times will advance to the finals.

Howard qualified for the meet in the final race of his freshman season when he ran 21.42 seconds with a wind reading of -1.7 at the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships to finish fourth and earn All-American honors. Howard entered the NCAA meet with the 20th best time in the nation during the season and had the second fastest qualifying time of 21.79 despite running into a -5.0 wind reading.
