Moravian Returns to Action with Third Place at Collegeville Classic

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's track & field team placed third of 24 teams at the Collegeville Classic hosted by Ursinus College on Saturday.

The Greyhounds, who were competing for the first time in six weeks, scored 50 points while Virginia Wesleyan University placed first with 61 points and Wesley (Del.) College was second with 57 points.

Junior Justin Beasley-Turner finished as the runner-up in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.30 to earn eight points while sophomore Peter Gingrich took fifth in 2:01.04 four points and junior Devon Fogel placed tenth in 2:08.85. Senior Aaron Hofmann finished eighth in a time of 4:40.58 to earn a point in the mile run.

Junior Greg Jaindl was the runner-up in the 3,000-meter run with a career-best time of 8:50.52, the sixth-best in school history, as he picked up eight points while senior Devon Harris earned three points for a sixth-place finish in a time of 9:26.03. Junior Gavin Kemery placed third in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 16:34.31 to earn six points while senior Benjamin Smith was ninth in 17:52.81.

Freshman Taylor Porter McPherson took fifth in the 400-meter dash in a time of 53.03 seconds to earn four points while senior Woodrow Battle made the finals of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.57 seconds in the preliminaries. Battle would finish ninth in the finals in 9.58 seconds. Porter also ran the anchor leg of Moravian's 4x400-meter relay team with senior John Spirk, junior Evan Lutz and sophomore Sean McFarland that placed fourth in 3:39.31 to earn five points.

Senior Scott Goodwin was second in pole vault at a height of 4.25 meters (13-11.25) to garner eight points while senior Tyler Bergsma earned three points for a sixth-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 12.91 meters (42-4.25).

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, January 26 when the squad hosts the Covert Classic at Lehigh University's Rauch Fieldhouse.
