TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior Peter Gingrich has been named one of the Landmark Conference Men's Cross Country Athletes of the Week.

With the cancellation of the traditional Landmark fall season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Landmark Conference will be recognizing an athlete from each member institution in each conference-sponsored fall sports over the next few weeks. Honorees were nominated for recognition by their respective institution based on achievements from the shortened season and career accolades.

Gingrich raced in three Landmark Conference Championship meets for the Greyhounds, finishing 31st in 2017, 38th in 2018 and 29th in 2019. He is a three-time member of the Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll, and Gingrich as three All-Conference honors with Moravian's indoor track & field team including conference titles in the 4x400-meter relay in 2020 and the distance medley relay in 2018 and a runner-up in the 4x400-meter relay in 2019.

"Peter was having an incredible fall season," commented Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Jesse Baumann. "Since we knew we weren't going to be able to have a fall championship season, we shifted his fall training to prepare him a little more for the 800 which he'd be focusing on this spring. However, towards the end of the semester he still wanted to test himself to see if he could break 16:00 in the 5k, despite not entirely training for it. Peter and two of his teammates worked together for the three of them to run 15:50 which shows me that if we focused more on XC training and the pandemic allowed us to have a meet, he could have been one of the best runners this fall contending for All-Conference honors."
