Houghton Sets Landmark Conference 6K Record to Lead Greyhounds in Season Opening Lehigh Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's cross country squad opened the 2022 season by finishing seventh of 11 teams at the Lehigh University Invitational Friday evening at the Goodman Campus. The Greyhounds had 196 points while Villanova University on the meet by taking the top five individual spots.

How It Happened

  • Fifth-year senior Shane Houghton set a new Landmark Conference record on a 6,000-meter course with a time of 18:16.8, which placed him 15th of 154 runners and as the top non-NCAA Division I runner. Houghton's time took nearly 10 seconds off of the previous conference mark set by Dillon Farrell '15 during the 2014 season
  • The next non-NCAA Division I runner was sophomore Owen Nahf, who took 32nd in the race in a time of 18:44.3. Sophomore Nathan Hajel placed 60th in 19:22.3 while senior Liam Duffy finished in 70th in a time of 19:31.4
  • Freshman Bryan Kerchner rounded out the Moravian top runners by taking 74th in 19:37.7 while junior Casey Frank was 91st in a time of 20:02.0. Sophomore Geoffrey Kleinberg was 96th in 20:11.0 while sophomore Jake Farrell had a time of 20:13.9
  • Rounding out the Greyhounds' line-up were junior Brendon Ward with a clocking of 20:22.6, freshman Joe Allegro in 20:36.7, freshman William Cooper with a time of 21:17.1, senior Christian Jancsarics, who ran 21:24.0, freshman Jackson Gaffney with a time of 22:11.0, senior Elias Aviles in 22:25.9, junior Paul Petre at 23:11.4, sophomore Wyatt Poniktera with a time of 23:39.9 and freshman John Breslin with a clocking of 23:33.2
