Softball Powers Past Delaware Valley to Run Win Streak to 15

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian College softball team put on an offensive display with 26 hits and 24 runs as the Greyhounds swept host Delaware Valley College in a pair of five-inning games, 9-1 and 15-3, Monday to extend the squad's winning streak to 15 games.

The Hounds are now 21-5 on the season, their 21st straight 20-win season under 21-year Head Coach John Byrne.

In the opener, Moravian jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI triple by senior catcher Taylor Mihalik and an RBI single from junior first baseman Jenn Dalickas.

The Hounds added a run in the top of the fourth when senior third baseman Rachel DeLucia connected on an RBI double.

The Aggies answered that run with one of their own in the bottom half of the fourth to cut the Greyhounds' lead to 3-1.

Moravian plated six runs in the top of the fifth inning for the NCAA eight-run rule. Mihalik and Dalickas each had RBI singles in the inning before senior designated player Cassie Ernst connected on an RBI double. DeLucia finished off the scoring with a three-run homer to center field, her second round tripper of the season.

The Hounds held an 11-4 advantage in this in the opener with DeLucia going 2-for-2 and both Mihalik and Dalickas having 2-for-3 games at the plate.

Sophomore Lindsay Sullivan improved to 5-0 in the circle this season with the win in the opener as she allowed just a run on four hits to go with three strikeouts.

Moravian jumped out to a first inning lead again in the second game with five runs in the opening frame. Junior pitcher Lizzie Mack drove in the first two runs of the game with a two-RBI double, and she crossed the plate on an RBI double by Dalickas, who would scamper home on a passed ball. Senior second baseman Eavan Matz ripped an RBI single to score the final run of the inning.

The Hounds would push the lead to 8-0 with three more runs in the top of the second. Dalickas, who had hit her second double of the game, scored on an RBI ground out by freshman designated player Julie Siragusa before senior right fielder Miranda Sergas connected on an RBI single. Sergas eventually scored the final run of the inning on an error.

Delaware Valley scored their three runs in the bottom half of the second frame to cut Moravian's lead back to five runs.

Moravian tacked on four runs in the top of the third inning. Sophomore pitcher Carsin Conner had an RBI single before Dalickas connected on a two-RBI triple. Dalickas came across the plate on a wild pitch later in the inning.

In the top of the fourth, Dalickas ripped her fourth extra-base hit of the game, this time finishing the scoring with a three-run homer to left field, her team-leading eighth home run of the season.

Moravian outhit the Aggies 15-3 in the second game with Dalickas going 4-for-4 with six RBIs and her four extra-base hits. Sergas was the only other Greyhounds with multiple hits, going 2-for-2 in the game.

The Hounds used three pitchers in the contest with Conner improving to 4-1 on the year with a hit and a strikeout in 1.2 innings of relief action. Mack tossed the first 1.1 innings while sophomore Kiersten Cain finished off the final two innings with a hit, a walk and a strikeout.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, April 15 in a non-conference doubleheader versus DeSales University starting at 3:30 p.m. at Blue & Grey Field.
