Novak Earns Another Landmark Softball Pitcher of the Week Award

TOWSON, Md. --- For the second straight week and the third time this spring, Moravian College freshman pitcher Josie Novak has been selected as the Landmark Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for her performance last week.

Novak tossed a pair of two-hit shutouts as the Greyhounds won all four non-conference games against regionally-ranked competition, and she did not allow a walk while striking out 20 batters in her 14 innings in the circle. Novak had eight strikeouts in a 5-0 win over the College of Staten Island, and she recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts in a 6-0 victory at Neumann University.

On the season, Novak is 13-3 with five shutouts in 16 starts. She has a 1.24 ERA and has allowed just 20 walks while striking out 125 batters, the ninth most in a single season at Moravian, in 102 innings of action.

"Josie had another outstanding weekend as she tossed shutouts against a pair of regionally-ranked squads," stated Head Coach John Byrne, who earned his 700th career victory in Novak's win versus Staten Island. "She has had great control over her pitches recently and has been really good at painting the corners to get strikeouts and not walk anyone. We're finally starting to give our pitching staff some run support."

The Greyhounds are scheduled to close out their 2015 regular season on Tuesday, April 28 in a non-conference doubleheader at Ursinus College starting at 3:00 p.m. in Collegeville.
