Schlosbon and Matos Tabbed as 2016 Softball Captains

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Senior outfielder Mary Schlosbon and sophomore catcher Janae Matos have been selected as the 2016 Moravian College softball team captains.

"Mary and Janae bring unique leadership qualities, not only on the field, but also in the classroom and on campus," commented Head Coach John Byrne. "Both young ladies have a good perspective of the program and the experience of winning a conference championship and competing in the NCAA Tournament."

Last season, Schlosbon played and started in all 46 games for the Greyhounds. Her .385 batting average, .420 slugging  percentage and a .439 on-base percentage earned her recognition as a Landmark All-Conference First Team Outfielder.  She will make the move from right fielder to center fielder for her senior season. Schlosbon has also found success in the classroom and was once again named to the Landmark Spring Academic Honor Roll. Around campus, Schlosbon is an active leader as she serves as Resident Advisor to her peers.

Matos appeared behind the plate in 34 games for the Blue and Grey last spring. In addition to her strong defensive skills at the catching position, she contributed a source of power to the line- up by adding five doubles, two home runs and 16 RBIs in her freshman campaign. Her knowledge and enthusiasm for her position is key to the success to those around her. Off the field, Matos serves as the President of Moravian's Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC).

The Hounds will kick off their season in Clermont, Florida playing in the National Training Center Spring Games starting Sunday, March 6. The Blue and Grey will play Penn State Behrend at 11:00 a.m. followed by a game versus Lakeland (Ill.) College a 3:00 p.m. Moravian will play its first home game on Tuesday, March 15 starting at 3:00 p.m. versus Neumann University in non-conference action.
