BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College junior catcher Janae Matos has been named to the 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Softball Team for NCAA Division III schools in District IV.

To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter or significant reserve. District IV in NCAA Division III is made up of schools from Pennsylvania. Moravian has had 44 Greyhounds named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans®.

By making the All-District First Team, Matos is now forwarded onto the national ballot to try for CoSIDA Academic All-America® accolades, which will be announced on May 23.

Matos is majoring in Psychology and Sociology, and she has a 3.34 GPA. This spring, Matos is leading the Greyhounds with a .525 batting average, 53 hits, 21 doubles, which has tied the single season record, and 42 RBIs. Matos was selected as the 2017 Landmark Conference Player of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Conference First Team for the second straight season. She also has contributed 22 runs, three homers, 16 walks, a .608 on-base percentage and an .822 slugging percentage for the Hounds to go with 191 putouts and 11 assists while starting 37 games this season.

Matos has helped the No. 11 Greyhounds to a 34-4 record in the regular season and the top seed in the 2017 Landmark Conference Tournament with an 11-1 conference slate. The tournament is scheduled to begin on Saturday, May 6 at 10:00 a.m. with Moravian hosting fourth seed Juniata College at Blue & Grey Field.

"Janae is an extremely well-rounded player both on and off the field," commented Head Coach John Byrne. "Not only has she been a leader to the team on the field with the way she handles our pitching staff and her season at the plate, but she is also in her second year as President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee here on campus. Janae makes everyone around her better."
