Wehr Named Landmark Conference Softball Player of the Week

Brooke Wehr '21 named Landmark Conference Softball Player of the Week.

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College freshman outfielder Brooke Wehr has been named the Landmark Conference Softball Player of the Week for her performance last week.

Wehr helped the No. 17 Greyhounds to a 3-3 record at the 2018 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Leadoff Classic in Tucson, Arizona against some of the best teams in the nation. Wehr was named to the All-Tournament Team after hitting .435 for the week. She was 10-for-23 with hits in all six games, and she added 10 runs, four homers, eight RBIs, two walks, a stolen base, a .480 on-base percentage and a .957 slugging percentage. She also had five putouts in right field during the tournament.

"Brooke had an excellent start to her college career facing top competition in the NFCA Leadoff Classic," stated Head Coach John Byrne. "She has all the tools to become an outstanding player at the collegiate level."

Wehr began the season with a 1-for-2 game in a 12-4, five-inning win over Whitworth (Wash.) University, and she was then 1-for-4 with a leadoff home run in a 2-1, eight-inning loss to No. 1 and defending national champion Virginia Wesleyan University. Wehr was 2-for-3 with a pair of solo home runs on a loss to Wittenberg (Ohio) University, and she was 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored in a 7-5 win over the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Wehr finished the tournament with a 1-for-3 game in a 4-3 loss to the University of St. Thomas (Minn.), and she went 3-for-6 with a home run, three runs and five RBIs in a 20-11 victory over Coe (Iowa) College.

Moravian will remain in Arizona to compete in the Tucson Invitational beginning on Tuesday, March 6 with games against Husson (Maine) University at 11:00 a.m. and Bethany Lutheran (Minn.) College at 1:00 p.m. EST.
