Novak Named Landmark Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week Again

Josie Novak '18 named as the Landmark Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior pitcher Josie Novak has been named the Landmark Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for her performance last week.

Novak, who receives her second Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Week honor of the season, had a 3-0 week in the circle for No. 6 Moravian. She posted a 1.33 ERA with 26 strikeouts and four walks in 21 innings of action in three complete games. Novak had five strikeouts in a 5-2 win over regionally-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology. She added nine strikeouts in a 7-2 victory over Ursinus College before recording her third double-digit strikeout game of the year with 12 strikeouts in a 3-1 win over the University of Scranton that clinched the top seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament for the Greyhounds and was the program's 1,000th victory. Novak added one putout and three assists in four chances in the field during the week.

"Josie has had another outstanding year, capping of the regular season with a win over Scranton on Senior Day to clinch the top seed in the tournament for us," stated Head Coach John Byrne. "Josie had very good command of the strike zone in all three of her outings last week, and we'll be looking for her to continue that performance as we host the conference championships this weekend."

Moravian, which finished the regular season at 29-5 overall and 11-1 in Landmark Conference action, will host the 2018 Landmark Conference Tournament at Blue & Grey Field on Friday and Saturday, May 4-5 with action beginning on Friday with the Greyhounds playing fourth seed The Catholic University of America at 11:00 a.m.
