SCRANTON, Pa. --- The No. 10 Moravian College softball squad swept a Landmark Conference doubleheader at The University of Scranton Wednesday evening, winning 5-1 and 8-1, to remain undefeated on the season.
How It Happened – Game #1
- The Greyhounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when junior outfielder Victoria Smith walked and senior third baseman Maddisen Bieber was hit by a pitch before a senior second baseman Shannon Brogan ripped a two-RBI single
- Scranton scored its run in the bottom of the fourth to cut the Moravian edge to 2-1
- The Hounds scored three times in the top of the seventh to season the win. Sophomore shortstop Alexis Agrapides walked to start the frame, and Bieber hit a one-out single. Senior catcher Brooke Wehr connected on a two-RBI triple, and she would score on a throwing error on the play
- Junior Alexandria Scheeler improved to 5-0 in the circle as she allowed just a run on eight hits to go with no walks and four strikeouts
How It Happened – Game #2
- Moravian scored the first run of the second game in the top of the fourth inning when Wehr connected on a solo home run, her third homer of the season and the 25th of her career
- The Blue and Grey scored three times in the top of the fifth to push the lead to 4-0. Junior outfielder Cameron Cassidy hit a one-out double and scored on an RBI single from Agrapides. Wehr and Scheeler added RBI singles in the inning
- The Greyhounds extended the advantage to 7-0 with three more runs in the top of the sixth. Freshman designated player Ajala Elmore led off with a single and raced home on an RBI double by Cassidy. Agrapides followed with a two-run homer, her second home run of the season
- The Hounds scored their final run in the top of the seventh when Wehr drew a leadoff walk and raced around the bases on an RBI double from Scheeler
- The Royals tallied their only run of the contest in the bottom of the seventh
- Sophomore Madison Hummel earned the win in the circle with two strikeouts, and she is now 5-0 on the year
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had 22 hits in the doubleheader with 11 in each game
- Wehr was 7-for-8 with five RBIs, three runs, a double, a triple and a homer while Agrapides was 3-for-6 with three runs, three RBIs and a home run
- Scheeler had a 3-for-7 day with two double and two RBIs while Bieber, Cassidy, Elmore and senior outfielder Maura Kane all had two hits in the twinbill
- The Greyhounds turned three double plays on the day, giving them seven double plays in 12 games this season
