
Freshman catcher Marcie Silberman rounds the bases after a go-ahead home run in the second game of the non-conference doubleheader at Blue & Grey Field versus Franklin & Marshall College.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from visiting Franklin & Marshall College at Blue & Grey Field Thursday afternoon as the Greyhounds took the opener 2-0 and rallied in the nightcap for a 5-4 walk-off win.
How It Happened – Game #1
- The Hounds scored the only run they would need in the first game with a run in the bottom of the second inning when sophomore center fielder Jessica Forder connected on a solo home run to left field. It was her first career homer
- The Blue & Grey added a run in the bottom of the third inning. Sophomore first baseman Lindsey Gawrys connected on a one-out triple down the right field line. Sophomore left fielder Sage Snyder drew a two-out walk, and then faked a stolen base attempt that drew a throw and allowed Gawrys to race home
- Sophomore Madi Cunningham started in the circle, and she scattered three hits and a walk to go with five strikeouts as she improved to 7-4 on the season. Cunningham now has a pair of shutouts in 2023 and five in her career
How It Happened – Game #2
- The Diplomats got onto the scoreboard with three runs in the top of the second inning of the second game
- The Hounds answered with a run in the bottom of the third frame to cut it to 3-1. Sophomore third baseman Holly Walter drew a leadoff walk and Walter eventually scored when freshman catcher Marcie Silberman drew another walk with the bases loaded and two outs
- Moravian pulled within a run in the bottom of the fourth inning when freshman right fielder Madison Berning connected on a single to begin the frame and scored on an RBI single by freshman pitcher/outfielder Sarah DeStefano
- The Blue & Grey took their first lead of the second game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Snyder reached on a walk with one out, and Silberman followed with a two-run homer to left center, her second homer of the spring
- F&M tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the seventh inning and left the go ahead run at third base
- The Greyhounds countered in the bottom of the seventh to win their fifth straight contest. Junior shortstop Ajala Elmore hit a one-out single, and after a two-walk walk by Snyder, Walter ripped an RBI single up the middle to send Elmore home with the winning run
- DeStefano improved to 9-1 in the circle with the victory that saw her strikeout six batters
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had 18 hits in the doubleheader with Forder having a 3-for-5 day with a run, an RBI and a homer and Elmore going 3-for-4 with a run on the afternoon
- DeStefano also had three hits with an RBI while junior catcher/outfielder Mya Zettlemoyer was 2-for-4
- Walter collected two hits with a run and an RBI while junior designated player Emily Silberman had two hits
- Marcie Silberman contributed a hit, a run, a homer and three RBIs while Gawrys and Berning each added a hit and a run and Snyder scored once
