Wright & Marcks Selected as Women's Basketball Captains

Bethlehem, Pa.--- Senior forward Alexis Wright and junior guard/forward Alesha Marcks were selected as captains for the 2014-15 Moravian College women's basketball season.

"Alesha Marcks and Alexis Wright are captains this year. Both of them are proven leaders on the court and they have also established themselves as leaders off the court. They will be leading a relatively young team this season. We are looking forward to a strong year for both of them and expect nothing but good things from them as they lead our team this season," commented Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk.

Marcks is entering her third year with the Greyhounds. Marcks averaged 19 minutes per-game last year while recording 225 points, 112 rebounds, 22 blocks and 23 steals. In her career she has 398 points, 213 rebounds, 38 steals and 40 blocks. Marcks was named Landmark Conference Co-Rookie of the Year in 2013.

Wright is returning after playing in only eight games last season before an injury sidelined her for the rest of the season. In the past three years, she has racked up the accolades; Rookie of the Year in 2012, First Team All-Conference in 2013, LVAIAW Women's Basketball Most Outstanding Athlete award, Women's Basketball Coaches Association Honorable Mention All-America, the Women's DIII News Honorable Mention All-America, the D3hoops.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team, the ECAC Division III South All-Star First Team and the Pete Nevins Lehigh Valley Small College Women's Basketball Player of the Year honors all in 2013 and was selected at the beginning of last season as a 2013-14 Preseason All-American by Women's DIII News.

Wright will be looking to join the 1,000 point club this season while helping get them to the post-season for the 14th consecutive time, she has 921 points, holding the 11th spot in school history with 621 rebounds and fourth in the Greyhounds' record book with 139 blocked shots.

They Greyhounds begin their 2014-15 season on November 15 at Muhlenberg College at 7:00 p.m. before welcoming The College of New Jersey to Johnston Hall at 7:00 p.m. on November 18.
