Wright Reaches 900 Boards, Hounds Fall to Blue Jays

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's basketball team took on Landmark Conference opponent Elizabethtown College in a battle for fourth place in their Annual Play 4Kay Game, falling in a hard-fought battle, 62-58, on Senior Day and Alumni Day in Johnston Hall.

Junior forward Alesha Marcks led the Greyhounds with 18 points and 11 rebounds for her fourth career double-double, and she added five blocked shots. Junior guard Samantha Caligiuri scored a career-high 15 points, and she grabbed three rebounds and four steals. Senior forward Alexis Wright had her 37th career double-double scoring 12 points and bringing down 14 rebounds to raise her career total to an even 900, the second player in school history to reach the milestone, and Wright added two blocks and four steals.

Junior guard Marie Rossignoli tossed in eight points, two rebounds and one steal while sophomore Morgan Calabrese contributed five points, eight rebounds, a team-high of six assists, two blocks and two steals.

In the first half, the Greyhounds got out to a quick four point lead with lay-ups from Wright and Marcks. A three-pointer by Caligiuri kept the Hounds ahead by one point, 7-6, with just under 16:00 minutes to play.

The Blue Jays would take a lead but Calabrese would cut the deficit to one, 11-10, with a layup with 12:19 left in the first half. The teams would trade points until Elizabethtown scored the final four points of the first half and head to halftime with an eight-point lead 29-21.

Caligiuri would come out to convert a three-point play after drawing a foul on a made lay-up and the next time down the court, Marcks made it a three point game, 29-26, with a jumper 1:02 into the second half. The Blue Jays would take a 13-point lead, but the Greyhounds battled back with back-to-back three pointers by Rossignoli and later a free throw by Wright would make it a four-point game, 54-50, with 5:22 to play. Caligiuri made a layup with 2:21 left to play to make it a one basket contest, but Hounds could only record one free throw the rest of the contest.

The Greyhounds return to Johnston Hall for their final home game on Monday, February 16 with tip off slated for 5:00 p.m. against Landmark Conference opponent The United States Merchant Marine Academy.
