Balanced Attack Leads Greyhounds Past Cabrini, 80-53, at Stockton Tournament

GALLOWAY, N.J. --- The Moravian College women's basketball team had four players score in double figures, and the squad shot over 50 percent from the floor as the Greyhounds won their third straight contest with an 80-53 victory over Cabrini College at the Stockton University Tip-Off Tournament Saturday evening.

The Blue and Grey were 29-for-57 from the field (50.9 percent), 8-for-17 behind the three-point line and 14-for-18 at the foul line while out-rebounding the Cavaliers 48-36. Moravian had 19 assists on its 29 baskets but also committed 18 turnovers in the game.

Junior forward Camille McPherson led the Hounds with 17 points and six rebounds as she was 5-for-7 from the field while graduate student forward Alexis Wright added 16 points, five boards and three blocked shots. Senior guard Karine Polgar contributed 15 points off the bench on 5-for-6 shooting including 4-for-4 on three-pointers  while freshman guard Maggie Melhem tossed in 12 points to go with five rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.

Junior guard Morgan Calabrese, sophomore guard Taylor Freeman and sophomore forward Trista Cunningham each scored four points with Calabrese dishing out three assists and Cunningham adding five rebounds. Senior forward Alesha Marcks was limited to just two points but she pulled down a game-high eight rebounds to go with three assists.

The squads played a back-and-forth opening 10-minute period with the score tied at 17-17 at the end of the quarter. After falling behind 23-19 in the second period, the Greyhounds would score 17 of the 18 points before halftime to head to the locker room with a 36-24 lead. Polgar connected on a trio of three-pointers during the final 5:09 of the half and McPherson added one three-pointer.

The Blue and Grey continued the run into the second half with the first 10 points of the third quarter as the Greyhounds took a 46-24 lead on a three-pointer by Melhem at the 7:54 mark. Moravian's lead would be 26 points, 65-39, by the end of the third period.

For the third straight game, Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk was able to use the depth of her bench with 15 player seeing at least three minutes of action and no one playing more than 23 minutes as the Greyhounds played their fourth game in eight days, part of a six-game, 11-day stretch to open the season.

Moravian will close out its trip to the Stockton Invitational on Sunday, November 22 when the Hounds take on the host Ospreys at 1:00 p.m.
