Moravian Rolls Past Stockton, 71-43, for 4th Straight Win

GALLOWAY, N.J. --- The Moravian College women's basketball team won its fourth straight game by more than 20 points and its second consecutive contest over a team that received votes in the D3hoops.com Top 25 preseason poll as the Greyhounds posted a 71-43 victory over Stockton University on the final day of the Stockton Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday.

After falling in their season opener by three points, the Hounds, 4-1 overall, have won by 23, 40, 27 and 29 points. Moravian's offense has continued to roll Sunday as the Blue and Grey reached 70 points for the fifth straight game and placed four players in double figures. The Greyhounds also shot the ball well for a fourth consecutive outing as the squad made 31-of-72 field goal attempts including 17-of-37 in the first half against the Ospreys. Moravian also had a 53-34 edge in rebounds Sunday afternoon including 20 offensive rebounds.

Graduate student forward Alexis Wright led Moravian with 14 points, and she added 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season and the 45th of her career to go with two assists and two steals. Wright is now two rebounds shy of becoming the second player in school history to grab 1,000 career rebounds, and she became the seventh player to reach 1,400 career points now with 1,409. Senior forward Alesha Marcks also had her second double-double of the season and the eighth of her career with 14 points and 10 boards, and Marcks dished out three assists.

Junior forward Camille McPherson tossed in 13 points, and she added six rebounds and two assists while senior guard Karine Polgar contributed 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals. Sophomore forward Trista Cunningham nearly hit double figures for the Greyhounds with eight points while senior forward Karlee Corvasce and senior guard Samantha Caligiuri each tossed in four points with Caligiuri adding a team-high five steals to go with three assists. Senior guard Emily MacDonnell pulled down four rebounds for Moravian while freshman guard Maggie Melhem added three steals.

After falling behind early, Moravian jumped out to a 4-1 lead on a jumper by Wright. The Ospreys came back to tie the game at 8-8 before the Greyhounds scored the final four points of the first period to lead 12-8 after 10 minutes of action. The Blue and Grey would see their lead reach double figures with 8:37 to play in the second period, and a three-pointer by McPherson just before the halftime buzzer send the Greyhounds into the locker room with a 40-20 advantage.

Moravian had 17 players see action on Sunday with just Caligiuri, McPherson, Wright, Marcks and Polgar seeing more than 20 minutes of action and Wright leading the group at 25 minutes despite not playing in the fourth period.

The Greyhounds will play their sixth game since opening the season on November 14 when Moravian makes the short trip to Center Valley to play DeSales University on Tuesday, November 24. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. in Billera Hall and the game will be televised live by TV-2 Sports.
