Moravian Runs Past Geneva at Swarthmore Tournament to Improve to 3-0

SWARTHMORE, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's basketball team had four players score in double figures as the squad won its third straight game to begin the 2016-17 season with a 96-58 victory over Geneva College on the second day of the Swarthmore College Tip-Off Tournament.

The Greyhounds, now 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the tournament, saw all 15 players dressed for the game play at least six minutes and 14 of them scored in the contest. Senior forward Camille McPherson led the Blue and Grey with 14 points, and she added a game-high nine rebounds and a career-best seven assists. McPherson was also named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Sophomore forward Ariana Caiati and freshmen guards Maddie Capuano and Karlie Brogan all had 11 points with Brogan adding four rebounds and four steals.

Junior center Ciara Stewart tossed in a career-high nine points with a pair of rebounds while junior forward Trista Cunningham added eight points and three boards. Senior guard Morgan Calabrese, who earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team, had seven points, five rebounds and five assists while junior guard Victoria McCaslin added a career-high five points with two rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Junior guard Taylor Freeman, sophomore forward Emily Walls, sophomore guard Caitlin Flanagan and sophomore guard Tyis Mullen each had four points with Freeman and Mullen each grabbing three boards. Freshmen forward Christine Neu and guard Brooke Santy both scored the first points of their collegiate career with Santy dishing out three assists while junior guard Kayla Csencsits added three rebounds.

Cunningham opened the scoring a minute into the first quarter, and Moravian would take the lead for good on a pair of Calabrese free throws with 8:17 left in the first period. Capuano capped a nine-point run with a three-pointer as the Greyhounds moved ahead 11-3. Calabrese hit a driving lay-up in the final seconds of the quarter to give the Blue and Grey a 29-11 lead after 10 minutes of action.

McPherson pushed the Moravian advantage to 20 points early in the second quarter, and the Hounds led by as many as 22 points, 45-23, with just over a minute left in the first half before heading to the locker room with a 46-27 advantage.

The second half saw the Greyhounds in control the entire 20 minutes with the advantage going to 31 points, 75-44, after a jumper from Santy late in the third quarter. Walls pushed the lead to 39 points, 89-50, with 5:50 to play for Moravian's largest lead of the contest.

The Hounds are scheduled to open their 2016-17 home season on Tuesday, November 22 when Moravian welcomes DeSales University to Johnston Hall for a non-conference game as part of the women's and men's doubleheader that will air live on TV-2 Sports.
