Cunningham's First Double-Double Leads Greyhounds to Non-Conference Win at FDU-Florham

MADISON, N.J. --- Senior forward Trista Cunningham recorded her first career double-double to help lead the Moravian College women's basketball team to a 68-60 non-conference victory at FDU-Florham Tuesday evening.

The Greyhounds, who have won four straight contests, improved to 4-1 on the season as Cunningham tied her career-high with 14 points and pulled down a career-best 15 rebounds. Graduate student forward Camille McPherson led Moravian with 20 points to go along with eight rebounds while sophomore guard Maddie Capuano tossed 12 points and added three rebounds and a pair of steals.

Sophomore guard Karlie Brogan, freshman forward Jordan Beneducci and freshman guard Jennifer McClave each netted five points with Brogan contributing two boards, Beneducci adding two steals along with her first collegiate points and McClave posting three rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals. Senior forward Ciara Stewart had four blocked shots, three rebounds and three steals while sophomore forward Nadine Ewald had two points and two boards and senior forward Jen Cella had two points.

The Hounds headed to the foul line 45 times in the game, making 30 shots from the charity stripe while shooting 19-of-48 from the floor.

The Devils scored first before the Greyhounds knotted the score at 2-2 on a lay-up from Cunningham. Another lay-up by Cunningham with 5:36 left in the first quarter gave the Blue and Grey the lead for the rest of game at 4-2, and a pair of free throws by Cella in the final seconds of the initial period had Moravian leading 16-9 after ten minutes of action.

Beneducci connected on a field goal with 3:51 to play in a low scoring second quarter as the Greyhounds pushed their lead into double figures for the first time at 21-11. The Hounds would head to the locker room with a 25-18 advantage.

The Blue and Grey would lead the entire third quarter with FDU-Florham getting within five points twice before the Hounds had a 39-33 edge after 30 minutes of action. Moravian maintained that lead throughout the fourth quarter to give the Hounds the win.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Thursday, November 30 when the squad returns home to Johnston Hall for a non-conference contest versus Wilkes University tipping off at 7:00 p.m.
