BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's basketball squad is set to tip-off the 2018-19 season with a road trip to Albright College for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference contest.
Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk enters her 32nd season with 10 players back from last year's 17-9 squad that played in the Landmark Conference Semifinals, the program's 17th straight postseason appearance. Spirk has guided the Greyhounds to a 579-275 record and had the season extended past regular season in 28 of 31 years.
Moravian returns three of its five starters from last season led by junior guard Maddie Capuano, who was named to the Landmark All-Conference First Team in 2017-18 and enters her junior season with 708 career points. Capuano averaged 13.5 points per game last season while leading the Greyhounds with 97 assists against just 78 turnovers, and she added 37 steals, a team-high 47 three-pointers and was 95-of-116 at the foul line (81.9 percent).
Junior forward Nadine Ewald returns as the top rebounds for the Hounds a year ago at 7.3 boards per contest, and she also averaged 10.3 points per outing. Ewald topped the squad last season with 27 blocked shots to go with 31 assists and 30 steals. Junior guard Karlie Brogan is the third returning starter for Moravian, and she averaged 8.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game last year. Brogan led the squad with 40 steals, and she added 45 assists, 17 three-pointers and 13 blocked shots.
Sophomore guard Jennifer McClave saw action in all 26 games as a freshman in 2017-18 with a pair of starts and she contributed 59 points, 50 assists, 43 rebounds and 21 steals. Senior forward Ariana Caiati returns for her final year after posting 44 rebounds and 35 points in 23 games off the bench last winter. Senior guard Emily Walls contributed 22 points and 19 rebounds last season while sophomore forward Jordan Beneducci had 17 points, 16 rebounds and 11 steals in her senior season. Junior guard Brooke Santy had 15 points and seven assists while senior guard Tyis Mullen added 13 points and seven boards and sophomore guard Sarah Donati had 12 points.
