YORK, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball team topped host York College of Pennsylvania, 52-44, in the opening day of the 15th Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.

How It Happened

  • The Spartans netted the first eight points of the afternoon before graduate student forward Tessa Zamolyi got the Greyhounds on the scoreboard with a lay-up over halfway through the opening quarter. Zamolyi's bucket started a 15-2 run that saw the Hounds move ahead 15-10 on a jumper from freshman guard Jayda Cartagena. York scored once more to cut the Moravian lead to 15-12 after 10 minutes of action
  • The Blue and Grey scored the first four points of the second quarter with a three-pointer from Zamolyi pushing the advantage to 19-12 three and a half minutes into the stanza. Zamolyi also netted the last bucket of the quarter as the Greyhounds headed to the locker room with a 25-19 edge
  • Moravian's defense limited York to just seven points in the third quarter while the Hounds extended the lead into double digits, holding a 37-25 edge after 30 minutes of action on a late jumper from sophomore forward Brielle Guarente to close out the period
  • The Spartans started the final quarter with a spurt to cut the Greyhounds' advantage down to three points at 39-36 but that is as close as the game would get. Moravian sank four free throws in the final minute to keep its lead over eight points and improve to 2-0 on the year
