SCRANTON, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball squad fell to No. 4 The University of Scranton, 79-56, in Landmark Conference action Thursday evening as the first half of the conference schedule wrapped up.
How It Happened
- The Royals netted the first 12 points of the game until senior forward Emily Markowski hit a lay-up to get the Greyhounds on the scoreboard at the 6:01 mark. Scranton pushed the lead out to 18 points at 26-8 after 10 minutes of action
- The Hounds offense continued to struggle in the second quarter with the Royals taking a 25-point lead and heading to the locker room with a 41-17 advantage
- Moravian would outscore Scranton by a point, 39-38, in the second half as the Blue and Grey would close within 19 points on three occasions in the third quarter, the final time on a jumper from senior guard Ashley Robinson at the 2:01 mark that made in 54-35
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had two players in double figures led by graduate student forward Tessa Zamolyi, who had her 12th double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Junior forward Sam Osorio added 13 points, three rebounds and two assists for the Greyhounds
- Sophomore forward Brielle Guarente contributed seven points, seven rebounds and a pair of assists while freshman guard Jayda Cartagena and Robinson each tossed in six points with Cartagena dishing out three assists
- Markowski finished with five points while graduate student forward Kayla Yoegel had five boards and four points and senior guard Morgan Amy dished out three assists
- The Greyhounds shot 19-for-55 from the field, 2-for-8 beyond the three-point line and 16-for-23 at the charity stripe
- The Blue & Grey did have a 37-33 advantage on the boards including 12-7 on offensive rebounds
