Greyhounds Fall to Neumann in Non-Conference Action

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team dropped an 18-8 decision to Neumann University in non-conference action at Rocco Calvo Field Wednesday afternoon.

Freshman midfielder/attack Jillian Picciuto led the Greyhounds with four goals and two assists while freshman attack Jessica Pisano had two goals and an assist. Sophomore midfielder Alexis Kersten netted Moravian's other two goals in the contest.

Freshman goalie Kelley Gavin posted 19 saves and added three ground balls for the Hounds while freshman midfielder Eileen Rolwood had a team-leading seven ground balls, three draw controls and three caused turnovers. Picciuto led the Blue and Grey with six draw controls and four caused turnovers, and she scooped up three grounds balls while freshman defender Melissa Webber had a pair of ground balls.

Neumann opened the scoring before Picciuto tied the contest at 1-1 six minutes into action. The Knights countered with three straight goals for a 4-1 advantage but the Hounds answered with three goals including two by Pisano to knot the score again at 4-4 with 11:38 left in the first half. Picciuto continued the run with a go-ahead goal at the 10:32 mark before Neumann scored the final four goals of the first half to lead 8-5 at the intermission.

The Knights controlled the scoreboard in the second half with Picciuto scoring twice and Kersten once on a feed from Pisano for the Greyhounds.

Moravian, 6-9 overall, will close out its 2016 season on Saturday, April 30 in a non-conference match versus Elizabethtown College beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Rocco Calvo Field.
