Greyhounds Top Hood in First Road Match of 2017

FREDERICK, Md. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team captured a 9-5 victory at Hood College Saturday afternoon in the Greyhounds' first road match of the 2017 season.

The Hounds improve to 2-1 on the year with their second consecutive victory.

Freshman midfielder Liz Bill led Moravian four goals while sophomore attack Jessica Pisano netted a hat trick. Freshman Allie Brembt added a goal and an assist while sophomore attack Kyleigh Miller had one goal. Sophomore midfielder/attack Jillian Picciuto contributed two assists while sophomore attack Dalia Aguilar had one assist.

Sophomore goalie Kelley Gavin made 12 saves for the Greyhounds while Bill, junior midfielder Alexis Kersten and junior attack Kyleigh McGovern each had four ground balls with Kersten adding three caused turnovers. Freshman defender Allie Fisher had a team-high five caused turnovers to go with a pair of ground balls while Bill added three draw controls. Picciuto and junior midfielder Kristen Baxter both had three ground balls.

Hood scored the opening goal just two minutes into action before two straight goals by Bill had Moravian leading, 2-1, eight and a half minutes into the match. The Blazers tied the contest at 2-2 but a pair of goals by Pisano in the final two minutes of the half sent the Greyhounds to the intermission with a 4-2 lead.

Moravian opened the second half with two more goals from Brembt and Bill to extend the advantage to 6-2 only to see Hood scored the next three goals and pull within a tally at 6-5 with 10:38 remaining. Bill netted her final goal with 6:24 remaining, and Miller and Piasno scored in the final 4:53 to seal the victory.

The Greyhounds head to Florida for Spring Break on Sunday, and the squad will play an exhibition match against Nihon (Japan) University on Monday, March 6 before taking on NCAA Division II Shorter (Ga.) University on Wednesday, March 8 at 3:00 p.m. in Davenport, Florida.
