Moravian Runs Past SUNY Purchase with 20 Goals in Non-Conference Action

PURCHASE, N.Y. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team posted a 20-10 win at SUNY Purchase in non-conference Tuesday action.

The Greyhounds, now 6-3 overall, hit the 20-goal mark for the third time in five contests with sophomore midfielder/attack Jillian Picciuto leading the way with seven goals to go with five draw controls and four ground balls. Sophomore attacks Kyleigh Miller and Jessica Pisano both tallied three goals with Pisano adding three ground balls. Junior attack Kyleigh McGovern and freshman attack Anna Kahnert each contributed two goals and an assist while sophomore attack Dalia Aguilar, junior midfielder Alexis Kersten and freshman midfielder Allie Brembt all tallied one goal. Kersten also added four draw controls.

Sophomore goalie Kelley Gavin had one save in 36 minutes of action while junior keeper Elisabeth Pontius made a pair of saves in the final 24 minutes of play. Freshman defender Allie Fisher contributed four caused turnovers, three ground balls and two draw controls while junior midfielder Kristen Baxter had three caused turnovers and two ground balls. Sophomore defender Jacqueline LaCava had three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.

Brembt opened the scoring 1:31 into action on an eight-meter shot, and Picciuto followed with two goals as Moravian opened a 3-0 lead. After the Panthers got on the scoreboard, the Greyhounds scored three more goals with Miller netting two goals. The Blue and Grey added seven more goals in the first half with Pisano scoring with 3:04 left before the intermission to send Moravian to halftime with a 13-6 advantage.

Kahnert netted the first goal of the second half just over a minute into action, and the Greyhounds would go on to out-score SUNY Purchase 7-4 in the final 30 minutes with the advantage reaching ten goals twice.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action in a Landmark Conference match at The University of Scranton on Saturday, April 8 beginning at 1:00 p.m.
