Picciuto Breaks Career Scoring Record but Hounds Rally Comes Up Short at Neumann

ASTON, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team rallied from an early deficit to tie the match before falling to Neumann University, 15-14, on the road Wednesday as the Greyhounds completed their 2017 non-conference schedule.

Sophomore midfielder/attack Jillian Picciuto scored five points for Moravian on three goals and two assists to give her 187 career points, breaking Lindsey Lustrino's career mark of 184 points in just two seasons. Freshman midfielder Liz Bill led the Greyhounds, who are now 6-8 on the season, with five goals while sophomore attacks Kyleigh Miller and Jessica Pisano each scored two goals. Sophomore attack Dalia Aguilar and freshman midfielder Allie Brembt each had one goal while freshman defender Allie Fisher added two assists.

Sophomore goalie Kelley Gavin made five saves for the Blue and Grey. Bill led Moravian with seven draw controls; four ground balls and three caused turnovers while Picciuto had six draw controls and three ground balls. Junior midfielder Alexis Kersten scooped up five ground balls while Fisher added five ground balls, three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Neumann netted the first three goals of the match before Picciuto netted her first goal of the contest with 26:12 to play in the first half. The Knights pulled ahead 5-2 before three goals from Bill and one by Picciuto eventually tied the match at 6-6. Picciuto would break Lustrino's scoring mark on an assist that set up a goal by Pisano with 1:23 left in the first half; however, Neumann scored twice in the final 36 seconds to head to the intermission with a 9-7 lead.

Pisano opened the scoring in the second half, and Picciuto knotted the score at 10-10- with 22:53 to play. Bill made it 11-11 with 16:27 remaining before the Knights scored four consecutive goals. Miller and Aguilar scored with seven minutes to go to cut the deficit to 15-13, and Bill made it a one-goal game with just over a minute to play but the Hounds could not get the equalizer.

Moravian is scheduled to close out its 2017 season on Saturday, April 29 in Landmark Conference action at Goucher College beginning at 1:00 p.m.
