Greyhounds Come Up Short in Non-Conference Action at FDU-Florham

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team dropped a 14-6 non-conference decision at FDU-Florham on Saturday.

The Greyhounds, now 1-1 on the season, had three players, junior midfielder/attack Jillian Picciuto, sophomore midfielder Liz Bill and freshman attack Meaghan McMullan each score two goals in the contest. Bill added three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers, and McMullan contributed four caused turnovers while junior defender Melissa Webber had three ground balls. Freshman attack Danielle Sullivan added an assist.

Greyhounds' junior goalie Kelley Gavin recorded 10 saves in the contest to go with a team-high four ground balls while senior midfielders Kristen Baxter and Alexis Kersten each had two caused turnovers. Freshman midfielder Olivia Clearie added three ground balls.

The Devils would get on the scoreboard first before Picciuto scored on an eight-meter shot to knot the score at 1-1 just over nine minutes into the contest. FDU-Florham netted the next seven goals before Picciuto scored on another eight-meter shot with just under 10 minutes left in the first half. Bill and McMullan scored as the Hounds cut the deficit to 8-4 with 2:44 until the intermission. The Devils tallied a late goal to hold a 9-4 lead after 30 minutes of action.

FDU-Florham out-scored the Greyhounds, 5-2, during the second half of play.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, March 6 in a non-conference contest versus Misericordia University that will be played in Clearwater, Florida.
