Greyhounds Rally Past Misericordia in Florida

CLEARWATER, Fla. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team posted a 17-12 victory over Misericordia University in Clearwater, Florida Tuesday.

Junior midfielder/attack Jillian Picciuto led the Greyhounds, who are now 2-1 on the season, with six goals and an assist to go with a pair of draw controls. Sophomore midfielder Liz Bill contributed four goals, two assists, five ground balls and two caused turnovers while freshman midfielder Olivia Clearie added three goals, three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Freshman attack Meaghan McMullan had two goals and five draw controls while freshman attack Danielle Sullivan had a goal and an assist. Freshman attack Breanna Federico netted one goal while junior attack Dalia Aguilar added one assist.

Junior goalie Kelley Gavin recorded 11 saves and added a pair of ground balls in 57 minutes of action while senior goalie Elisabeth Pontius made one save in three minutes. Senior midfielder Alexis Kersten added three caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls.        

Misericordia scored the first two goals of the match, and the Cougars led 5-2 before the Greyhounds ran off six straight tallies to take an 8-5 edge. The Blue and Grey were up 8-7 at halftime before Misericordia netted the first two goals of the second half to retake the lead, 9-8. The Hounds then scored nine consecutive to take a 17-9 advantage.

Moravian is slated to return to action in its first home match of the season when the squad hosts Southern Vermont College on John Makuvek Field on Tuesday, March 13 at 5:00 p.m.
