Greyhounds Race Past Southern Vermont in 2018 Home Opener on John Makuvek Field

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team scored eight times in the first 7:14 of action and would go on to post a 19-2 non-conference victory over visiting Southern Vermont College Tuesday evening in the Greyhounds 2018 home opener on John Makuvek Field.

The Hounds, now 3-1 on the season, had eight different players score goals and nine factor in the scoring as the Blu and Grey dished out a school record 13 assists in the victory. Freshman attack Danielle Sullivan led Moravian with four goals and three assists while freshman attack Meaghan McMullan netted four goals. Junior attack Jillian Picciuto scored three goals and added five assists, the third most in a match in her career, while junior attack Jessica Pisano added a hat trick.

Freshman midfielder Olivia Clearie contributed two goals and an assist while freshman attack Breanna Federico had one goal and three assists. Sophomore midfielder Liz Bill and senior attack Kyleigh McGovern each had one goal while sophomore midfielder Allie Fisher dished out one assist.

Moravian used all three of its goalies during the match with junior Kelley Gavin making the start and playing 21 minutes. Freshman Courtney Heist saw 20 minutes of action while senior Elisabeth Pontius played the final 19 minutes of the contest.

McMullan led the Blue and Grey with five ground balls and four caused turnovers to go with four draw controls while Fisher had a team-high seven draw controls along with four ground balls. Clearie added four draw controls while Bill added three caused turnovers. Picciuto scooped up four ground balls in the match.

McMullan opened the scoring just 15 seconds into the match on an eight-meter shot to get the Hounds started on an 8-0 run. After the Mountaineers scored 11 minutes into play, Moravian scored another seven goals for a 15-1 lead after 30 minutes of action. The Hounds added four goals in the second half for the win.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, March 17 when the squad hosts Widener University in a non-conference match beginning at 4:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field.
