BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team extended its winning streak to a program-best five matches with a 20-7 victory at DeSales University Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.
The Greyhounds, who had previously had three four-match winning streaks in the program's 11 season, are now 6-1 overall this spring. Moravian had six different players score goals led by freshman midfielder Meaghan McMullan with six goals and an assist to go along with nine draw controls and three ground balls. Sophomore midfielder Liz Bill added four goals and four assists to go with two ground balls, two draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers while junior attack Jillian Picciuto had four goals, two assists and four draw controls to move into sole possession of first place in the Greyhounds' record book with 159 career draw controls, her fourth school career record.
Sophomore midfielder Allie Fisher also netted four goals to go with an assist, four draw controls and three ground balls. Freshman attack Danielle Sullivan tallied one goal to go with two assists while junior attack Dalia Aguilar scored one goal and freshman attack Breanna Federico had one assist.
Junior goalie Kelley Gavin made four saves in 53 minutes of action for her sixth win of the season while freshman Courtney Heist played the final six minutes. Freshman midfielder Olivia Clearie added two ground balls and two caused turnovers while senior midfielder Alexis Kersten had two caused turnovers and sophomore defender Allie Brembt had three ground balls. Freshman midfielder Maecy Chlebowski added a pair of ground balls.
Bill scored the opening goal just 34 seconds into the match, and she added two more goals and McMullan scored twice to give the Greyhounds a 5-0 lead just over seven minutes into the contest. The Bulldogs pulled within 6-3 before the Hounds netted the final six goals of the first half including a pair by Fisher in the final 45 seconds to head to the intermission with a 12-3 advantage. The Blue and Grey would score the first six goals of the second half to push the edge to 18-3.
Moravian is slated to return to action on Friday, March 30 in a Landmark Conference match at Susquehanna University beginning at 4:00 p.m. in Selinsgrove.
