Women's Lacrosse Falls to Scranton in Landmark Conference Action

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team dropped an 18-9 decision to visiting The University of Scranton in Landmark Conference action on John Makuvek Field Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds, now 8-2 overall and 2-1 in Landmark Conference play, had three players score in the match with sophomore midfielder Liz Bill netting five goals to go with five ground balls and a pair of draw controls. Junior attack Jillian Picciuto added three goals and seven draw controls while freshman midfielder Meaghan McMullan contributed a goal, an assist two ground balls, two draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers.

Junior goalie Kelley Gavin made 12 saves in the contest to go with a pair of ground balls while sophomore midfielder Allie Fisher had three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Junior defender Melissa Webber added three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while senior midfielder Alexis Kersten had four ground balls. Sophomore attack Danielle Sullivan contributed three ground balls while sophomore defender Allie Brembt added two ground balls.

The Royals scored the first two goals of the match before Bill netted her first tally of the afternoon with 21:30 left in the first half. Scranton led 5-2 before a pair of goals by Bill sandwiched around one from Picciuto tied the contest at 5-5 with 13:03 before the intermission. The Royals moved back in front and scored seven of the final eight goals of the first half to build an 11-6 lead at the break.

Bill scored just over a minute and a half into the second half but Scranton ran off six straight goals to take control.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, April 11 in a non-conference match at Swarthmore College beginning at 7:00 p.m.
