Bill & Picciuto Hit Career Milestones as Greyhounds Rally Falls Short at Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse squad nearly rallied from a four-goal halftime deficit before falling to host Swarthmore College, 11-10, in a hard-fought non-conference match Wednesday evening.

The Greyhounds, who are 8-3 on the year, had a pair of players reach milestones in the contest. Sophomore midfielder Liz Bill netted a team-high six goals against the Garnet to become the sixth player in school history to 100 career goals. Junior attack Jillian Picciuto hit two milestones as she had a goal and three assists in the match to become the first player in school history with 100 career assists and take sole possession of the school record for career goals with 165. Picciuto also had three draw controls Wednesday evening to extend her school career record to 180.

Sophomore midfielder Allie Fisher and freshmen midfielders Meaghan McMullan and Olivia Clearie each tallied one goal for the Blue and Grey. Fisher contributed fourth caused turnovers, three draw controls and three ground balls while McMullan also added seven draw controls and a pair of ground balls and Clearie scooped up five ground balls.

Junior goalie Kelley Gavin made eight saves and added three ground balls for the Greyhounds.

Fisher opened the scoring just under five minutes into the contest for a 1-0 lead before the Garnet netted four straight goals. Bill scored two of the next three goals as Moravian closed within 5-3 with 12:36 left in the first half but Swarthmore ran off three more tallies to extend the edge to 8-3. Bill scored again with 2:39 before the intermission as the Hounds trailed 8-4 after 30 minutes of action.

Clearie and Picciuto scored early in the second half as Moravian closed within two goals, 8-6, with 20:43 to play. The squads traded the next five goals as the Garnet let 11-8 with 6:46 to play. Bill netted her final two goals just 48 seconds apart as she pulled the Greyhounds within a point with 4:21 left in the contest.

Moravian is slated to return to action on Saturday, April 14 in a Landmark Conference match at Drew University beginning at 12:00 p.m. in Madison, New Jersey.
