Moravian Women Hold Off Late Rally For Landmark Conference Win at Drew

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team held off a late rally by host Drew University as the Greyhounds posted a 20-17 victory in Landmark Conference action Saturday afternoon.

The Hounds, now 9-3 overall and 3-1 in Landmark Conference play, had eight different players find the goal with sophomore midfielder Liz Bill netting a game-high eight goals to go with an assist. Junior attack Jillian Picciuto added four goals while freshman midfielder Olivia Clearie netted a hat trick. Sophomore midfielder Allie Fisher contributed two goals while freshman attack Danielle Sullivan had a goal and three assists. Senior attack Kyleigh McGovern added a goal and an assist while freshman midfielder Meaghan McMullan had one goal.

Junior goalie Kelley Gavin recorded 10 saves to go with five ground balls while Fisher added three ground balls and four draw controls. Clearie had a career-best 13 draw controls to go with three ground balls while McMullan contributed five draw controls. Bill, McGovern, Sullivan and junior defender Melissa Webber each had two ground balls.

The Rangers scored first before Sullivan found the back of the net with 23:45 on the clock. After the teams traded goals again, Bill would five Moravian the lead for good on an eight-meter shot with 20:46 remaining in the first half as the Greyhounds scored five straight goals for a 6-2 advantage. Drew eventually closed within a goal at 11-10 before Bill and Clearie both scored in the final 33 seconds of the half to send the Blue and Grey to the intermission with a 13-10 lead.

In the second half, Moravian pushed the advantage back to five goals a 17-12 on a goal by Clearie with 21:38 remaining, and the Greyhounds were up 20-13 after Bill scored her eighth goal of the match with 14:43 to play. The Rangers would get four goals and pull within 20-17 with 4:38 left but that would be the final goal of the contest.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, April 18 when the Greyhounds host Elizabethtown College in a Landmark Conference match beginning at 4:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field in Bethlehem.
