Moravian Falls at No. 24 Christopher Newport in Non-Conference Action

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse team fell to host and No. 24 Christopher Newport (Va.) University, 18-11, in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened

  • The Captains netted the first two goals of the contest before junior midfielder Megan Donnelly and senior midfielder Lindsey Strohl tallied goals for the Greyhounds to knot the score at 2-2 with 4:48 to play in the first quarter. Christopher Newport answered with four goals including two in the final minute of the period to lead 6-2 after 15 minutes of action
  • CNU also scored the first two goals of the second quarter and four overall in the period. The Blue and Grey had three goals in the second quarter with Donnelly finding the net twice and junior attack Devin King adding a goal to make it a 10-5 Captains' lead at the intermission
  • Freshman attack Jackie Salvatore started the second half with a goal, and she scored once more and Strohl had a pair of goals as the Greyhounds moved within a pair of goals at 11-9 with 2:19 remaining in the third period. Christopher Newport scored twice in the final 1:01 of the period to lead 13-9 after 45 minutes of play
  • The Captains added four more goals in the fourth quarter while Strohl and freshman midfielder Alex Cherenson each scored for Moravian in the final period 

Inside the Numbers

  • Strohl led Moravian with four goals to go with seven draw controls while Donnelly had three goals. Salvatore contributed a pair of goals and three assists while King had one goal and one assist and Cherenson scored once
  • Senior defender Meghan Moore had a pair of ground balls and two caused turnovers for the Greyhounds while junior midfielder Emily Hoskin  had three draw controls and two ground balls and senior defender Samantha Cherenson added two ground balls
  • Junior goalie Brelyn Friedman started and had eight saves and five ground balls in 49 minutes of action while junior goalie Rylee Soltis added four saves in 11 minutes in goal
