Greyhounds Win Third Straight with Non-Conference Victory Over Cabrini

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse team won its third straight match as the squad posted a 22-14 non-conference victory over visiting Cabrini University on John Makuvek Field Wednesday afternoon.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds opened the scoring just 1:40 into the match on a goal from senior attack Kelsey Moore. The Cavaliers countered 23 seconds later to knot the score. Senior midfielder Lindsey Strohl and junior midfielder Megan Donnelly netted goals for the Hounds for a 3-1 edge, but Cabrini added two more goals as the squads were tied 3-3 after 15 minutes of action
  • The Cavaliers also scored the first goal of the second quarter to take a brief 4-3 lead before Strohl found the goal at the 13:13 mark. Cabrini moved back in front with 11:11 left in the second period before back-to-back goals from Strohl and two tallies from senior attack Eliza Fantazzi had the Blue and Grey ahead 8-5 with 5:04 before the intermission. After the Cavaliers scored, Moravian netted four more goals with Moore sending the Hounds to halftime with a 12-6 lead
  • The third quarter saw each team net three goals with two in the final ten seconds of the period, one from the Cavaliers and an 8-meter goal by freshman attack Jackie Salvatore  with 3.6 seconds left to give the Greyhounds a 15-10 edge after 45 minutes of play
  • Moravian netted the first four goals of the fourth quarter with Moore pushing the edge to 19-10 at the 11:07 mark. The Blue and Grey briefly had a 10-goal lead at 21-11 after Salvatore found the net with 8:44 to go; however, the Cavaliers would net three of the last four goals of the half

Inside the Numbers

  • Strohl led Moravian with five goals to go along with seven draw controls, four ground balls and four caused turnovers while Moore and Salvatore each netted four goals and had three ground balls with Moore adding a pair of caused turnovers
  • Donnelly finished with two goals, four assists, five draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers while Fantazzi contributed two goals and three assists. Freshman midfielder Alex Cherenson had two goals and an assist while junior midfielder Emily Hoskin netted a pair of goals to go with five ground balls and four draw controls
  • Freshman attack Madi Dippel contributed a goal, an assist and two draw controls for the Hounds while junior attack Devin King had an assist
  • Senior defender Meghan Moore scooped up four ground balls while senior defender Samantha Cherenson had two ground balls
  • Junior goalie Brelyn Friedman registered a season-high 11 saves to go with two ground balls for the Blue and Grey
  • Moravian finished the contest with a 41-38 edge in shots, a 27-21 advantage in ground balls and a 21-17 edge in draw controls. The Greyhounds were also 20-for-27 on clearing attempts
