Greyhounds Rally From Six-Goal First Quarter Deficit to Defeat Juniata on Makuvek Field

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse team trailed visiting Juniata College, 8-2, after the first quarter before the Greyhounds scored the next 13 goals on the way to a 17-9 victory in Landmark Conference action on John Makuvek Field Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened

  • The Hounds netted the opening goal of the match when senior midfielder Lindsey Strohl found the net just 3:49 into action. The Eagles answered with six goals in a seven-minutes span to take a 6-1 edge. Strohl scored again; however, Juniata netted two more markers in the final minute for the quarter to lead 8-2 after 15 minutes of action
  • Moravian scored the only five goals of the second period with Strohl, senior attack Eliza Fantazzi, junior midfielder Megan Donnelly, freshman attack Madi Dippel and freshman attack Jackie Salvatore each finding the goal as the Blue and Grey closed within a goal at 8-7 at the intermission
  • The Greyhounds took the lead roughly four minutes into the third quarter when Donnelly and Salvatore each scored within 29 seconds of each other. Donnelly scored twice more in the period while Dippel, Strohl and Fantazzi each had a goal as the Hounds extended the edge to 14-8 after 45 minutes of play
  • Dippel opened the fourth quarter with a goal before Juniata netting its final goal of the match after going 38:21 without a goal after opening a six-goal edge. Donnelly and junior attack Devin King finished off the scoring with tallies in the final seven minutes

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had six different goal scorers led by Donnelly, who had five goals and an assist to go with eight draw controls and a pair of ground balls. Strohl contributed four goals, eight draw controls, four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while Dippel added a hat trick and an assist
  • Salvatore registered two goals and an assist while Fantazzi netted two goals and King finished with a goal, an assist and two ground balls
  • Junior goalie Rylee Soltis had six saves in the final 45 minutes of the match to earn her first win of the season while junior Brelyn Friedman played the first 15 minutes of the contest
  • Senior defender Meghan Moore contributed four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while senior defender Samantha Cherenson had three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Freshman midfielder Alex Cherenson also had three ground balls while senior defender Jamie Bader and sophomore defender Keara Reilly both had two ground balls
  • The Greyhounds had a 50-19 advantage in shots and a 25-16 edge in ground balls to go with a 21-9 advantage in draw controls. Moravian was also 18-for-20 on clears
