Kristen Nicholson came to Moravian in August 2014 to become the head coach of the women’s lacrosse program as the school works toward reinstituting the program as a varsity sport in 2016. She guided the squad to a 6-10 mark in 2016 and coached the 2016 ECAC Division III South Rookie of the Year. Nicholson's 2017 squad received the first postseason berth in school history with a trip to the ECAC Division III Quarterfinals, finishing the season at 7-9 while the 2018 squad set a school record with an 11-5 mark and earned the program's first-ever Landmark Conference Tournament berth. In 2019, the team went 12-6 and reached the Landmark Conference Semifinals for a second straight year. Her 2020 squad was 4-2 when the season ended due to COVID-19. Nicholson guided the Hounds to a 6-5 mark in 2021 including the program's first Landmark Conference Tournament victory in the quarterfinals.

Nicholson served as the coach Moravian’s club women’s lacrosse team in 2015 and also spent the year recruiting her first class of freshmen. The Greyhounds returned to action as a member of the Landmark Conference in 2017 after competing as an independent in 2016.

Nicholson came to Moravian after three seasons on the staff at FDU-Florham. She began as an assistant coach in 2012 for her alma mater but stepped into the role of interim head coach for the 2013 campaign while Adrienne Carr was on maternity leave. Under Nicholson’s tutelage, the Devils posted a 13-8 mark and captured their second straight Freedom Conference Championship and a berth in the ECAC Tournament.

As a player at FDU-Florham from 2007 through 2010, Nicholson, formerly Schuster, netted a career total of 179 points on 131 goals and 48 assists, and she added 77 ground balls and 60 draw controls. During her senior season, Nicholson served as a team captain and was named to the Middle Atlantic All-Conference Second Team. She also led the squad to the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championship while being named the Most Valuable Player of the title match. The Devils played in the postseason in all four of Nicholson’s seasons, winning the MAC title in 2008 for a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Nicholson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in fine arts as an undergraduate, and she also earned her Master’s Degree in Sports Administration from FDU-Florham.
