Women's Soccer Wins Home Opener

Freshman forward Quanie Lightner scored her first career goal just over nine minutes into her collegiate debut to lead the Moravian College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Swarthmore College in the opening round of the Messiah College Classic Friday.

Lightner dribbled through traffic in the box and fired a shot from the right side into the lower left corner of the net after a lead pass from freshman midfielder Kristen Schall. Lightner had four of Moravian's 11 shots in the match as the Garnet had a 13-11 edge in shots in the contest while the Greyhounds held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Moravian sophomore goalie Genevieve Chaleff had five saves for her first career shutout while Elizabeth Martin had two saves for Swarthmore.

The Greyhounds will take on Wittenberg University in the second day of the Messiah Classic on Saturday, September 3rd at 4:00 p.m. while Swarthmore plays the host Falcons at 7:00 p.m.
