Schall Earns First Career Hat-Trick in 5-1 Win at Neumann

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's soccer team defeated Neumann University in a 5-1 thriller on Wednesday night in a non-conference match up as senior forward Kirsten Schall netted her first career hat trick.

The Blue and Grey wasted no time getting on the board first. A crisp ball from junior midfielder Melissa Pavia, found junior midfielder Taylor Blake in the right place to find the back of the net for her first goal of the season in the fifth minute. 

Schall would net the next goal for Moravian in the 29th minute with an assist from sophomore midfielder/forward Valentina Margiottiello to extend the lead 2-0 going into halftime.

Coming out fast again after the intermission, Schall score her second goal of the match in the 46th minute while sophomore defender Emeley Reyes made the score 4-0 in favor of the Hounds in the 58th minute.

Freshman Emily Crowley earned her first collegiate career assists when she passed the ball to Schall just under two minutes after Reyes' goal. Schall would work her magic earning the Hounds' fifth goal of the match. The goal finished off Schall's first collegiate hat trick and the first for a Greyhound since Arielle Caldas had a hat trick versus Drew University on September 26, 2009. The tally was also the 23rd of Schall's career, moving her into a tie for fifth place in school history, and her six points on the evening moved Schall into fifth in the Greyhounds' record books with 64 points.

Neumann would score in the 63rd minute making the final score 5-1. Moravian had a 19-10 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks in the match.

Freshman goalie Jessica Lawton stepped in between the post for the Blue and Grey to start the second half for her first collegiate action, making four saves in the final 45 minutes. Junior Jacqueline Zalis played the first half in goal with one save for the Hounds.

The Greyhounds are set to travel on Saturday, September 13 for a 12:00 p.m. kickoff against Centenary (N.J.) College in a non-conference showdown.
