Greyhounds Blank Goucher 1-0 in Overtime

Bethlehem, Pa.--- The Moravian College women's soccer team shutout Goucher College 1-0 in overtime in their opening match of the 2014 Landmark Conference season.

The Greyhounds wasted no time pressuring the Gophers in the final third, creating three shots and three corner kicks within the first five minutes of the game. With a few more shots missing high or wide, both teams would remain scoreless going into halftime.

The Hounds were relentless, testing the keeper every way they could, and out- shooting their opponent 18-8. Looking to put the ball in the back of the net, the Blue and Grey would have their chance on a corner by sophomore forward Melissa Walko, who sent in a ball to senior defender Kaylan Bruzzone but a team save would keep them off the board and send the game into overtime.

Bringing positive momentum into overtime, the Hounds would receive their eight corner kick of the day in the 92nd minute of the game, and it is all they would need. Senior forward Kirsten Schall would play a short ball to junior midfield/defender Taylor Blake, with a quick pass back Schall would drill the ball into the top left corner of the net for her 11th goal of the season making her the fifth player to score 30 goals in their career and tying her in fourth in school history.

Junior goalkeeper Jacqueline Zalis would make two saves in the match securing the win and her third shutout of the season.

The Moravian College women's soccer team faces off at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1 against Haverford College on HUB Quad.
