Hounds Rally Past Juniata in Overtime on Schall's Golden Goal

HUNTINGDON, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's soccer team rallied from a 1-0 deficit for a 2-1 overtime victory on a golden goal by senior forward Kirsten Schall at Juniata College Saturday in Landmark Conference action.

Schall's tally, her 13th goal of the season and her fifth game-winner of the fall, capped a late second half rally to improve the Greyhounds to 7-6 overall and 2-1 in Landmark Conference action this fall. Both of the Hounds' Landmark wins this season have come in overtime on goals by Schall.

The Greyhounds looked for a quick start in the match with a pair of shots in the first 4:09 of the match including one on goal by Schall. Juniata had a shot hit the post before Moravian had the next four shots including two more on goal from junior midfielder Taylor Blake and senior defender Kaylan Bruzzone after corner kicks from Schall.

Moravian junior goalie Jacqueline Zalis made one of her two saves in the match just 49 seconds before the intermission to keep the contest scoreless at the break.

Sophomore forward Melissa Walko opened the second half with a shot on goal for the Greyhounds but it would be Juniata that broke onto the scoreboard first with a goal in the 71st minute.

The Hounds would answer eight minutes later when Walko dribbled in with the goalie down and scored her second goal of the season. Moravian looked to move ahead quickly with a pair of shots from junior midfielder Brittany Nicoline in the minutes after the goal but one was saved and the other was wide. Schall also had a shot on goal with just under five minutes in regulation that was knocked away.

Zalis made her second stop of the match just 34 seconds before Schall scored her unassisted goal for the victory.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, October 15 when the Greyhounds will welcome Landmark Conference newcomer Elizabethtown College to the HUB Quad for a conference match starting at 4:00 p.m.
