Women's Soccer Ends Double-Overtime in 0-0 Draw

Bethlehem, Pa.--- The Moravian College women's soccer team hosted their annual Breast Cancer Awareness match Saturday against Susquehanna University. A hard-fought battle between both teams until the final seconds of double-overtime the game would end in a 0-0 draw.

"I was very proud of our overall effort and approach to the game.  In the end to not get the win leaves us all very frustrated," commented Head Coach Jeff Ykourk.

The Hounds came out strong, taking 11 shots in the first half. Sophomore midfielder/forward Valentina Margiottiello got things started by using her head in the sixth minute, but it was saved by the goalie. Senior midfielder/forward Kirsten Schall would have a blocked shot, but would follow it up and miss just high of the goal. Both teams would head to halftime scoreless.

The Blue and Grey outshot the Crusaders again with nine shots in the second half. Sophomore forward Melissa Walko ripped a shot from on top of the 18-yard box that hit the crossbar in the 54th minute. Schall and Walko would both took turns in the 58th minute but came up empty. With time running out in regulation, Schall would take a corner but the game would go into overtime.

The first half of overtime came and went with only one shot recorded for the visiting team that was blocked. The second of the two 10 minute sessions sent things into overdrive for Schall, who posted three shots, the first sailing just right of the goal, the second missing the upper left crossbar and her third header being saved. Again with just seconds left, the Hounds earned a corner that found its way into the box but was ultimately cleared by the defense ending the game 0-0.

Junior goal keeper Jacqueline Zalis made five saves in the game for the Greyhounds.

The Greyhounds take on Elizabethtown College on Tuesday, October 21 in a rescheduled Landmark Conference match at 4:00 p.m. on HUB Quad.
