Women's Soccer Drops Match to Scranton on Senior Day

Bethlehem, Pa.--- The Moravian College women's soccer team fell in a hard-fought battle against Landmark Conference foe, The University of Scranton, 2-0, on Senior Day Saturday afternoon on HUB Quad.

"The overall effort was there, but unfortunately the game came down to two defining moments which resulted in two goals for them," commented Head Coach Jeff Ykourk. "I thought we had some chances to score, but our execution attacking just wasn't there today.

The Royals jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead, scoring off a corner kick a little over a minute into the game. The Greyhounds would look to counter with a shot that missed just high by sophomore midfielder/forward Valentina Margiottiello. Looking to equalize before halftime, freshman defender Lauren Bertucci would fire a shot from the 18-yard line that just went over the crossbar and forward Melissa Walko ripped one that missed just left.

The second half found the Hounds on the attack with a shot on goal by senior forward Kirsten Schall in the 53rd minute that was saved the goalie. In the 59th minute, Margiotiello looked to finish a corner by Walko, but just missed with the ball grazing the right post and going out of bounds. Scranton would score its second goal in the 78th minute. Schall would try to get the Greyhounds on the scoreboard in the final minutes, but would have one shot saved while the other missed just right of the goal.

The Blue and Grey head to non-conference Muhlenberg College on Tuesday, October 28th at 7:00 p.m.looking to earn Matte Award points.
