Schall Named Landmark Senior Scholar-Athlete for Women's Soccer

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior Kirsten Schall has been selected as the 2014 Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete for Women's Soccer.

The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors and sports information directors. Chosen at the conclusion of each sport season, the six fall honorees are being announced this week and next week.

"Kirsten represents the true meaning of a student/athlete," stated Head Coach Jeff Ykoruk. "Her ability to perform at a high level on the field was impressive. To see what she has achieved in the classroom is what really matters and we are all very proud of that."

Schall was honored as the 2014 Landmark Offensive Player of the Year, the second time in her career that she had earned the award after being the Co-Offensive Player of the Year in 2012. She also made the All-Conference First Team this fall, her fourth All-Conference selection and second time on the First Team. Schall was also honored on the 2014 National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire NCAA Division III Women's All-Mid-Atlantic Region Third Team.

On the pitch, Schall helped the Greyhounds to a 7-10-1 mark this fall while leading the squad with 16 goals and one assist for 33 points. Her 16 goals tied the Moravian single-season record, and she netted six game-winning goals in 2014. Schall's six game-winning goals were tied for first in the conference and 22nd in the nation this fall, and she was tied for 46th in goals per game at 0.889, tied for 59th in goals with 16, 71st in points per game at 1.83 and tied for 93rd in total points with 33 in the final national rankings.

Schall completed her career third in school history in both goals with 35 and points with 88, and she is fourth in the Moravian record books with 18 career assists. She also tied the school record with three assists versus Penn State-Altoona on September 4, 2012.

Off the field, Schall has maintained a 3.497 GPA in psychology while minoring in education. Schall has made Moravian's Dean's List four times, and she is a three-time selection to the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll. This fall, Schall also earned a spot on the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District IV NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Team.

When she wasn't on the field or in class, Schall has been active around campus as well as off of it. She has served as part of Moravian's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, worked with Moco for Coco which is group on campus working to raise awareness of pediatric cancer, and the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. Schall also does numerous off-campus community service including spending time at Brave Beginnings, an early intervention school for children with disabilities.
