Top 10 Stories of 2014-15 - #8 Schall Named Landmark WSOC Offensive Player of the Year

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College continues its look back at the 2014-15 athletic campaign with Top 10 Stories from the past year including the No. 8 story – senior Kirsten Schall being named the 2014 Landmark Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year for the second time in three seasons.

"To have a player that you know will always at their best during training and matches is special," commented Head Coach Jeff Ykourk. "Kirsten never missed a beat and always focused on the small details that makes players great. The team knew that if we could set her up anywhere close to the goal she would finish the opportunity. Her ability to play at a high level is one thing, but she led by example off the field, which was great for our entire program."

Schall was also the Co-Offensive Player of the Year for the conference after her sophomore season in 2012, and she led the 2014 squad to a 7-10-1 record with 16 goals and one assist for 33 points. Six of her 16 goals were game-winning goals last fall that led the conference and was 22nd in the country.

"It was such an honor and very much of a surprise to be named the Offensive Player of the Year for the second time this fall," explained Schall. "We played against such talented girls who had amazing seasons that I thought for sure one of them would be given that title."

Her outstanding senior season led Schall to finish her four-year career third in school history with 35 goals and 88 points. She also completed her Moravian career ranked fourth in career assists with 18, which included a school-record tying three assists against Penn State-Altoona during her sophomore campaign.

In addition to being the Landmark's Offensive Player of the Year in 2014, Schall garnered a number of other postseason accolades. She earned a spot as a Landmark All-Conference selection for the fourth time, making the First Team for the second time in her career. Schall was also named to the 2014 National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire NCAA Division III Women's All-Mid-Atlantic Region Third Team.

Schall also excelled off of the field, earning a spot on the Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll for the third straight year, a selection to the 2014 Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Team and being named the 2014 Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete for women's soccer.

"After taking it all in, I realized that all my hard work paid off and that I was very lucky to be part of a program that pushed me to do better each day. Without the support from my team, coaches, family, and friends, I'm not sure that I would have been able to have the success I did and I will be forever grateful for everything they have done for me," finished Schall.

Schall will be staying involved with the Greyhounds' program as she moves to the sidelines this fall as an assistant coach.

Number seven on our Top 10 Stories will be announced on Monday, August 3.
